Know How to Check TRIM Enabled on SSD Or Not?

If you are using Windows 7, 8, 10 system and have an SSD drive connected with your system, TRIM feature should be enabled already. Still, if you have any doubts in your mind, there is always the option to check TRIM function enabled or not. Here is how you can verify if TRIM feature is enabled on your SSD or not:

First of all, open the command prompt (CMD) on your system by typing cmd in the search box and selecting the result.
Now, type the command script fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify in the prompt and press Enter.
Within a short time, any of these two results will appear on your screen:
“NTFS DisableDeleteNotify = 0″ – This result signifies that the TRIM feature is enabled.
“NTFS DisableDeleteNotify = 1” – If you get this result, then the feature is disabled.

Depending on the result, you can decide what do you need to do. If the TRIM function not enabled and you want to know how to enable the TRIM function for SSD. Move to the below section.

If you want to know how to activate TRIM SSD drive, here it is. For that, you need to use command prompt again. Open the command window and run fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 0 commands. Press Enter and the TRIM will be enabled. Users will be notified of the enabling by this message “NTFS DisableDeleteNotify = 0.”

To know how to turn off trim on SSD, read this section. If you want to disable this feature, run fsutil behavior set disabledeletenotify 1 in the command prompt. When disabled, “NTFS DisableDeleteNotify = 1” will be seen in the command window.
Why Shouldn’t You have TRIM Enable

From the above discussion, it is clear that the TRIM feature surely has some advantages. But, enabling TRIM feature in SSD makes deleted data unrecoverable by any manual or automated techniques. Since your data is valuable and you often do not have control over accidents, the option to recover files should always be present. Therefore, we always suggest disabling TRIM on your SSD.
